We just received the first entry in our Mini Canvas Art Contest for Teens, from the talented Emma G.


If you're in 5th-12th grade, stop by the library's front desk and ask for your free mini canvas (it's small!). Take it home and decorate it using any medium (ink, acrylic, you name it) and send a photo of your completed art work to readingisimportant@gmail.com. Prizes!

𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝
We need reliable, responsible teen volunteers for the following dates and times. Volunteers would need to be picked up promptly at the end of each program. Parents are welcome to stay with their volunteer and will also be roped into service. Teens may volunteer for one event or for multiple events by showing up at the dates and times indicated and introducing themselves as a volunteer.
*𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐧𝐞: 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄-𝐈𝐍 𝐁𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐎
Location: New Carlisle Public Library Parking Lot
Time: Monday, June 14. Volunteers should arrive around 6 p.m. and stay until 7:30 p.m.
Volunteer responsibilities:
*assemble bingo kits and deliver them to cars
*welcome each family with a smile and a friendly greeting
*use giant bluetooth speaker to call Bingo games
*arrange and supervise prize table
*𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐰𝐨: 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐌 𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄
Location: Smith Park
Time: Friday, June 18. Volunteers should arrive at 9:30 a.m. and stay until 11 a.m.
Volunteer responsibilities:
*greet & register live worms and their coaches
*supervise and train worms
*page worms to the race track utilizing bluetooth technology
*announce races
*measure the distance traveled by each worm and record it
*provide minor medical attention to worms
*release retired racers into the wild
*staff and supervise the prize table
*𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞: 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐞 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Location: Smith Park, beside the Tennis Courts
Time: Thursday, June 24, 4-6 p.m.
Volunteer responsibilities:
*greet teens that arrive and make them feel welcome
*assist with setup of supplies
*help other teens with the tie dye process
*bag wet t-shirts for transportation home
*𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫: 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰/𝐃𝐎𝐍𝐔𝐓𝐒
Location: New Carlisle Public Library Parking Lot
Time: Monday, June 28. Teen volunteers should plan to arrive around 9:30 a.m. and stay until 10:30 a.m.
Volunteer responsibilities:
*greet each car and deliver a copy of the Storytime book to them. Let them know they can keep the book
*DONUT PATROL!

Teen Summer Reading:  Read to Rescue!

Read for a purpose.  Read for the animals.  Read to rescue!  Our local animal rescue, His Hands Extended, lost their vet and they are struggling to stay open.  Your librarian will donate $1 to His Hands Extended for every teen in 6th-12th grade who signs up for Read to the Rescue, with a $350 maximum contribution.  Let's read this summer to help the animals!

Meet outdoors at the picnic shelter beside the Smith Park Tennis Courts. Anyone in 5th-12th grade is welcome, but please BRING A WHITE T-SHIRT. If you are not able to bring a t-shirt, but would like to participate, you can send an email to readingisimportant@gmail.com and we will fix you up 🙂 This program will be rescheduled if it rains.
